Hodgman Government “in top spot” as the most popular government in the country with small business

The Hodgman Government has retained its position as the most popular government in Australia with small and medium businesses, a new report has found.

For the second quarter in a row, the Sensis Business Index has ranked the Hodgman Government as the country’s favourite state amongst businesses.

The report says that “the Tasmanian Government remains in top spot” and confidence has “increased in Tasmania”.

The report goes on to say that: “The Tasmanian Government…remains Australia’s most popular government at a state, territory or Federal level and the only government to hold a positive approval rating among business owners.”

Importantly, it says that “…confidence in regional Tasmania was up 23 points.”

This is a clear sign that our long-term Plan to develop the economy in regional Tasmania is working.

Currently, the Hodgman Government has an overall ranking of +2, making us the only state with a positive ranking.  To put that in context, Tasmania’s previous Labor-Green Government had a ranking of -62 just before the last election.

Labor has so far demonstrated that they haven’t learned their lesson and because they have no plan, they would damage Tasmania’s rebounding business sector and would plunge the economy back into recession.

Our economy is growing at the fastest rate in six years and since the election around 5,200 jobs have been created.  But there is still a lot to do.

One of the features of the upcoming budget will be a strong focus on further economic growth and job creation.  We will also be investing more into skills and training and building our workforce of the future by helping more Tasmanians get into an apprenticeship or traineeship.

This is the latest in a string of reports that points to an economic revival in Tasmania. MyState’s economic update said that Tasmania’s economy had “reached new heights”, Deloitte Access Economics said that “Tasmania now is ranked second on unemployment as its 5.8 per cent jobless rate is 5 per cent below the “normal” (decade-average) of 6.1 per cent” and the TCCI’s most recent report said that confidence is rebounding right around the State.
