Hodgman Government cutting building red tape

The Hodgman Liberal Government is cutting red tape in the building sector to grow the economy and create jobs.

Today, the Government launched the next stage of our reform of Tasmania’s Building Regulatory Framework.

New laws have been drafted that will make it easier for builders and customers.  We’ve begun consulting on the draft laws and I encourage anyone who works in the industry or who is thinking of building or renovating a house or a business to provide their feedback.

There are two draft laws open for consultation – the Building Bill 2016 and the Occupational Licensing Amendment Bill 2016.  Both are available for public comment at www.justice.tas.gov.au. Submissions close 12 February 2016, with the bills expected to be tabled early next year.

The Building Bill 2016 looks to introduce a risk-based approach to building and plumbing approvals that will streamline the process.

The Occupational Licensing Amendment Bill 2016 seeks to bring all of the high-risk occupations in the building and construction industry under one set of laws, which will simplify the administration process and provide greater consistency in licensing, compliance and enforcement regimes.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to removing unnecessary red and green tape, making it easier to do business in Tasmania which will drive economic growth and creates jobs.
