Hobart airport traffic relief as Christmas approaches

Work is now complete on improvements to the Hobart airport roundabout to provide some relief for motorists travelling between Hobart and Sorell and the Southern Beaches.

A second lane has been added to the existing roundabout on the Tasman Highway at Holyman Avenue, as well as changes to the entry and exit at the roundabout.

The merge on the approach to the roundabout from Hobart has also been removed and an additional lane added on the approach from Sorell.

These changes will cut the delays at the roundabout, and will also allow better access to the airport meaning less frustration for drivers.

We know that Sorell and the greater South-East region is growing, and that there are more visitors flying into Hobart, which is leading to more pressure on the transport network.

That’s why we have developed our South-East Traffic Solution* and will invest strongly in the transport network, to maintain the liveability of the region and address traffic congestion.

Planning for the new Hobart Airport Interchange flyover project, funded by the Australian and Tasmanian governments, is well underway with the works due to go to tender in March next year.

This project is just one part of the South-East Traffic Solution, with six major road infrastructure projects in the pipeline, including upgrading the roundabout at Midway Point and building a new southern Sorell Bypass.
