Hitting Tasmania's sweet spot

Congratulations to Van Diemens Land Creamery (VDLC) who officially opened the doors to their latest ice-cream venture on Hobart’s constitution dock today.

As the State continues to experience a surge in visitor numbers, the new store will provide a uniquely Tasmanian experience, with VLDC offering patrons 10 quintessential Hobart locations and ice cream flavours that capture the essence of each location. Among the selection is:

*           Sandy Bay – Saffron Pistachio;

*           Cascade Brewery – Choc Stout; and

*           The Royal Botanical Gardens – Lemon, Olive Oil & Rosemary

The ice creamery is set to build on Hobart’s reputation for producing some of the finest food in the world, by bringing their own twist on the classic dessert. The store is the latest in a growing list of gastronomical experiences that are tempting hungry travellers to Tasmania with the promise of fresh, local and amazing produce.

The growth of gourmet tourism is a billion dollar industry and is reflected in the latest statistics which reveal 1.27 million visitors spent a record $2.26 billion in Tasmania during the past year.

These are impressive figures, but with local producers continuing to expand and tantalising more tourists to visit the State the Hodgman Liberal Government is confident that we will reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania by 2020.
