Hill Street Grocer jobs growth

Hill Street Grocer is a fantastic example of a successful Tasmanian business that is expanding and creating jobs.

Jobs are our number one priority which is why the Government provides over $100 million in Skills and Workforce Development funding each year.

This includes supporting the employment and training of new employees at Hill Street Grocer through a Skills Fund grant.

Up to $2375 in funding is provided per person to cover training costs of employees who participate in the Australian Retail Association’s Retail Ready Jobs Program.

Last year, Hill Street opened a Devonport store employing 70 new people, and in the first six months of 2017, they have employed another 117 people state-wide.

This is a fantastic vote of confidence in our economy by Hill Street Grocer.

Through the ARA’s Retail Ready Jobs Program long-term unemployed are able to undertake a Retail Level 2 Certificate course with a Hill Street focus.

Up to 80 per cent of new staff are now being sourced through this innovative program which has streamlined the recruitment process and been tailored specifically to Hill Street’s needs.

Hill Street Grocer has made a strong commitment to training staff and ensuring they have the skills to provide customers with the best possible retail experience.

The Government recognises that supporting a skilled and productive workforce is central to Tasmania’s economic prosperity.

We will continue to invest in training that delivers real skills for real jobs and drives economic growth.
