Jeremy Rockliff

Premier of Tasmania

16 June 2018

Peter Gutwein, Treasurer

Hey Scott, call Bill

It seems Scott Bacon’s whinging doesn’t take time off on the weekend. Why does Mr Bacon only speak to the media when he wants to run down Tasmania’s success?

The Prime Minister has guaranteed Tasmania won’t lose a cent of GST – On the other hand Labor leader Bill Shorten has only guaranteed WA's.

Mr Bacon should be demanding Bill Shorten match the Prime Minister’s guarantee rather than playing politics and whinging.

Mr Bacon’s personal record when it comes to managing the state’s finances is nothing more than debt, job losses and recession.

It is clear this former failed Finance Minister resents the success of Tasmania’s economy, the 13,400 jobs which have been created and the fact Tasmania’s businesses are the most confident in the nation.

Mr Bacon has even admitted he is too lazy to bother about our State’s economic future by refusing to put together an Alternative Budget.

The Government makes no apology for our record investment in job creating infrastructure that will build Tasmania’s future.

Scott Bacon is simply scaremongering, instead of whinging to journalists all weekend, why doesn’t he pick up the phone to his mate Bill Shorten and demand the same guarantee for Tasmania that the Prime Minister has given?
