Helping vulnerable Tasmanians into work

The Tasmanian Government’s number one priority is jobs.  We are also committed to supporting vulnerable Tasmanians.

That’s why it’s important to support social entrepreneurs like Hamlet Café.  Hamlet Café provides work experience for people who are experiencing barriers to employment or who have a disability.

The Tasmanian Government is backing Hamlet Café with a $80,000 grant to help them provide support and work experience for up to 50 people facing barriers to employment, plus another 10 people with disabilities.  The training they will receive will act as a stepping stone to either a job in the industry or for further training.

Hamlet Café is working with Parkside, Epic Assist, Whitelion, Oak and Workskills to provide a structured and supported environment for people with disability to receive genuine work experience and training in all aspects of hospitality.

The hospitality industry is one of the pillars of Tasmania's visitor economy, directly employing more than 20,000 people in over 2,000 cafes, restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfasts and accommodation venues across the State.  By backing businesses like Hamlet Café we are investing in supporting vulnerable Tasmanians and providing a skilled workforce for one of our most important industries.  It’s a win-win for the State.

Hamlet Café is one of 27 projects sharing in $2.46 million worth of funding as part of the Government’s Training and Work Pathway Program.

The Program supports innovative vocational education and training projects that upskill disadvantaged Tasmanians and overcome barriers to work and training.

Projects feature partnerships between industry groups, employers, community organisations and training providers to support participants to develop essential employability and technical skills, and to find employment.
