Helping Tasmanian small businesses employ more apprentices and trainees

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to supporting small businesses to grow and ensuring young Tasmanians have access to apprenticeships and traineeships.

Small business is the engine room of the Tasmanian economy, yet they are often unable to take on apprentices and trainees because of the cost, time and commitment involved.

The $600,000 Supporting Small Business with Apprenticeships and Traineeships Program is designed to assist small business with the challenges they may face employing a new apprentice or trainee and create successful employment outcomes.

Applications are now open under the Program for funding to eligible organisations to provide practical assistance to Tasmanian small businesses with less than 20 employees such as:

  • business advice on employing an apprentice or trainee
  • assistance with recruitment
  • provision of mentoring and support during the first year of the apprenticeship or traineeship.

These services will be provided at no cost to the business and will be customised to the needs of each business.

I encourage any business that has considered taking on a trainee or apprentice but didn’t know how to seek more information from Skills Tasmania.

Applications close 5:00pm Friday 10 February 2017.
