Helping hand for flood affected not-for-profits

The Tasmanian Government will make $100,000 in grants immediately available to sporting clubs and other not-for-profit community groups recovering from the recent floods.

Record breaking rainfall across much of North and North-West Tasmania earlier this month had a devastating impact on many Tasmanian communities, infrastructure and industries.

The Tasmanian Government and Federal Government announced immediate assistance, but there is still a long and difficult road ahead for many.

To assist in this, the Department of Premier and Cabinet will provide quick response grants of up to $2,000 to eligible organisations affected by the recent floods.

The grants will support eligible organisations to meet urgent expenses involved in cleaning-up, purchasing equipment that was damaged or destroyed and hiring new facilities if required.

This will assist not-for-profit groups impacted, such as sporting clubs from rowing to golf and football clubs.

Not-for-profit organisations are often the heart of their local community, and it is essential that at a time such as this that these organisations can get back on their feet and back to being the backbone of the community, as they so often are.

The Tasmania Government will continue to work with the Regional Flood Recovery Committee to ensure every effort is made to work with local communities as they rebuild.
