Healthy choices for all Tasmanian kids

The Healthy Kids Toolkit, launched today is a new preventative health initiative to help children stay healthy for life.

With more than 67 percent of Tasmanians either overweight or obese, the Hodgman Liberal Government has made targeting obesity a priority within our Healthy Tasmania strategic plan, and we recognise establishing good habits should start early.

An online tool, the Healthy Kids Toolkit provides easy to understand information on healthy eating and physical activity to help Tasmanian children grow up fit, healthy and well.

The toolkit will help families, carers, early childhood educators and community organisations make healthy eating and activity fun right from the start.

The website includes Start Them Right – A parent’s guide to eating for under 5s that contains dozens of simple and healthy food ideas.

Another resource is Being Active Matters, a parent's guide to movement in the early years with practical and fun activity ideas.

The Toolkit also links to the State Library’s ‘Health on the Shelf’ story books for children on food, culture and living well.

Healthy Tasmania is the Government’s new approach to helping Tasmanians enjoy better health and stay out of hospital.

It is in addition to the $70 million we  already invest each year into preventative health programs.
