Healthscope selected as the preferred operator of the Hobart Private Hospital

After a rigorous, open and competitive process, Healthscope has been selected as the preferred operator of the Hobart Private Hospital.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is delivering our plan to provide essential services for Tasmanians, and the Hobart Private Hospital (HPH) is a key health asset that has an important role to play in health service delivery.

While the long-term contract is subject to final negotiations, Healthscope and the Government have struck an in principle agreement that will see a greater return to the state, improved integration between the Royal Hobart Hospital and the HPH, increased capital investment in the site itself, and most importantly, improved delivery and continuity of services in line with the Government’s strategic health objectives.

The competitive, open procurement process saw healthy competition amongst proponents, with seven initial entities interested and three selected to progress through the final assessment process. These final bids were of a high standard.

It was clear there was a strong level of commercial interest in the facility and our sincere thanks to those that participated in this process.

Importantly, the conclusion of this process will allow us, in partnership with Healthscope, to deliver critical health services to Tasmanians in a way that offers value for the taxpayer, and significantly, integrates and complements those services provided by the Tasmanian Health Service.
