HCC Derwent River Ferry forum

It was my pleasure to attend the Hobart City Council’s forum today on Derwent River ferry transportation.

A wide range of viewpoints were raised at the meeting by stakeholders, which are all valuable as we consider Greater Hobart’s future transport options.

The Government’s position has been consistent on Derwent River ferries.  Hobart is a river city and passenger ferries would ideally play a part in public transport between key locations in Greater Hobart.

However, this is a complex matter with a number of issues to be resolved when deciding if such a project is viable, including estimated passenger volumes and cost of operations.

We will continue to explore all viable options to ensure the best possible outcome for Tasmania’s transport future, and I look forward to seeing the Council’s final report following today’s discussions.
