The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to upgrading the Great Eastern Drive to enhance the experience for the increasing visitor numbers along the state’s east coast, and improve safety and travel time reliability for all road users.
With work already underway on the first package of work to build a new overtaking lane at Cranbrook, consultation will launch today for the next package of work.
The Great Eastern Drive has been an unqualified success, with a 20 per cent increase in visitors to the East Coast since inception.
The 176 kilometre Drive is one of Tasmania’s iconic touring routes, winding through forests, vineyards, farmland, open coasts and beachside towns.
To make it even better, the community is invited to share their views on the best places to improve driver experience.
The Department of State Growth is inviting feedback, ideas and suggestions for turning facilities at entries to popular tourism experiences, pull over areas for slow vehicles and for vehicles stopping at scenic viewpoints and road widening locations.
Feedback provided from the community will be used to develop a range of options to better equip the Great Eastern Drive for higher traffic numbers, including locals and tourists.
These works on the Great Eastern Drive are part of our commitment to ensuring that Tasmania’s reputation as a premium destination is protected for locals and visitors alike.
To provide your feedback, ideas and suggestions, please visit the interactive map by Monday, 17th December 2018.
