Have Your Say on New Women’s Strategy

Tasmanians are urged to have their say on gender equality through an online survey designed to inform the development of a new women’s strategy.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to a more equal Tasmania, and we have led the way with initiatives aimed at achieving positive change for women and for our community.

Our Women on Boards Strategy targets equal gender representation on government boards and committees; our family violence strategy and action plan have been hailed as nation-leading; and we not only have a Minister for Women but have also appointed Tasmania’s first female Speaker of the House of Assembly, first female Governor and first female Chief Magistrate.

As Minister for Women, I want to strengthen our efforts in preventing and responding to gender inequality through the new Tasmanian Women’s Strategy.

Due for release early next year, the strategy will focus on four priority areas for action: economic empowerment, leadership, health and wellbeing, and safety.

These priority areas align with work being done by the Australian and other state and territory governments, as well as the Australian Human Rights Commission.

The online survey provides the opportunity for people to outline their experiences of gender equality across these areas, and to share ideas on how to achieve gender equality in Tasmania.

I particularly encourage all Tasmanian women to complete the survey.

Even if you do not have access to a computer or the internet, your local LINC will be able to assist you to access the survey.

Individuals and organisations are all welcome to make written submissions.

The survey and submission process is open for responses until Friday 13 October at www.women.tas.gov.au
