Have your say on developing hospitality and heritage tourism

The Hospitality and Heritage Tourism Discussion Paper is now open for public comment on how we can turn our history and heritage into more tourist bookings and longer visits.

Our hospitality, tourism and heritage sectors play a critical role in helping to build our economy and by working together, these sectors attract visitors and provide them with an unforgettable and quintessentially Tasmanian experience.

The discussion paper will seek the views of those who work or have an interest in the hospitality, tourism and heritage sectors to provide their thoughts on the status, direction and future for this important aspect of our visitor economy.

Responses will be used to establish a framework to create a unified heritage tourism brand and greater collaboration between hospitality, tourism and heritage across the state.

With 1.27 million visitors for the year to June 2017 and an annual spend of $2.26 billion, this paper will also go some way to meeting our Building Your Future targets of ensuring 70 per cent of all visitors stay overnight in regional areas and increasing the number of jobs in tourism to 50,000 by 2022.

The submission period will be open until the end of the 2017-18 summer to give people the opportunity to reflect on the peak tourist season.
