The Tasmanian Government is supporting the return of the successful BeakerStreet@TMAG event for another year with a $5000 grant.
Opening tomorrow night as part of National Science Week, the event aims to take science out of the laboratory and into the wider community.
Visitors can listen to a range of talks from guest speakers, meet roving scientists, dance to live music, check out the finalists in the Science Photography Prize, and enjoy plenty of Tasmanian food and wine.
An enchanting slime mould forest will be set up in the Bond Store Basement, as well as hands-on workshops including beer brewing, vegetable fermentation and cider science, tracking marine predators, the art of scientific writing and the chance to make your own sound-responsive LED lamp.
Highlights of the free-entry event include a visit from ABC presenter Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and a talk on probability by MONA founder David Walsh.
TMAG is delighted to partner again with Beaker Street in providing an opportunity to share the latest innovations in science and stories of discovery in a less-formal setting.
TMAG will also be hosting a range of other events during National Science Week, including taking part in the Festival of Bright Ideas at Princes Wharf No. 1 on Hobart's waterfront on Friday, 17 and Saturday, 18 August.
TMAG scientists will also offer an insightful and fascinating ‘Into the Vaults’ behind-the-scenes tours at the Rosny Collections and Research Facility and the Tasmanian Herbarium.
Visitors can also view stunning images from the Antarctic Photography Exhibition, currently on display at the museum as part of the Australian Antarctic Festival until 19 August.
BeakerStreet@TMAG runs from 6:00 pm until midnight on Friday, 10 and Saturday, 11 August at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
