Foodbank Tasmania volunteers are working overtime to make Christmas a little merrier for Tasmanians in need.
More than 4,000 hampers are being prepared for families and individuals that might otherwise go without traditional Christmas food as well as pantry staples.
Today I was privileged to join volunteers from schools, businesses and community groups to help package the produce.
Foodbank Tasmania plays an important role assisting welfare agencies and community organisations to support Tasmanians in need.
It rescues surplus food and groceries from food suppliers and redistributes to 200 Tasmanian welfare agencies as well as school breakfast programs in 85 schools.
With the budget back on track the Tasmanian Liberal Government is reinvesting in essential services that support the most vulnerable in our community.
This includes a three-year commitment to Foodbank Tasmania.
We look forward to continuing to work with Foodbank Tasmania as it brings a bit of joy to people in need this Christmas and throughout the year.
