A total of $20 million has been allocated as part of the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s plan to ensure Tasmania has the skilled workforce it needs to support our growing economy.
The funds are part of the 2020 Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund (User Choice), which provides subsidies to significantly reduce the cost of delivering quality training and assessment for nationally recognised qualifications.
This Fund will help build a highly skilled workforce in Tasmania, with more than 400 nationally-recognised qualifications eligible for funding across a wide range of industries.
Supported training may incorporate on-the-job, in classroom or online learning, or a combination of these depending on the qualification.
We know that an apprenticeship or traineeship gives a young person the best start to their working life, as well as allowing existing workers to upskill.
Having the right people with the right skills in the right jobs is vital for building a stronger economy and this program is part of a concerted effort to fill existing gaps in the labour market.
Last week’s National Centre for Vocational Education Research statistics confirmed Tasmania’s trainee and apprenticeship completion rate is 10 per cent higher than the rest of the nation.
We are confident this new Fund will continue this success, with the results reflecting the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s ongoing investment in education and skills.
