Greens damaging attack on Tasmanian brand, where is Labor?

The Tasmanian Greens’ support for market protests is an irresponsible and damaging attack on Tasmania’s brand.

Plans to protest at the Sydney fish market next year ignore the independent processes in place to regulate our highly regarded world class salmon industry, and is a blatant attack on the industry and the jobs it supports.

We understand that Huon Aquaculture has advised they will be exiting Norfolk Bay earlier than first scheduled. Huon were only ever issued a short-term permit at Norfolk Bay to facilitate safe harvesting practices of fish grown in Storm Bay and for improved biosecurity risk management.

The Greens' actions risk thousands of jobs in the industry, most of which are located in regional areas around the State.

Labor have had plenty of opportunities to distance themselves from the Greens on this issue, but when push comes to shove they have chosen to remain silent. Labor are once again showing a lack of substance and a lack of leadership.
