Applications are now open for two important grants programs – the Teddy Sheean Memorial Grants Program 2016-17 and the Centenary of ANZAC Grants Program.
The Teddy Sheean Memorial Grants Program was established as a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice made by Tasmanian sailor Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean, who gave his life for his country and fellow shipmates during a battle in 1942 off the coast of East Timor.
``The Grants Program will honour Teddy Sheean as a representative of the many Tasmanians who selflessly gave their lives for others in the defence of this country,’’ said Ms Courtney, who is also responsible for Veterans’ Affairs.
The Grants Program will support
Tasmanian RSL clubs, sub-branches, and
ex-service clubs and organisations to fund minor capital works, with applicants
able to apply for grants of up to $10,000 through a competitive application
process.
To date, $189,813 has been provided to 26 projects in the Program’s first two years.
A total of $100,000 has been allocated for 2016-17.
The Centenary of ANZAC Grants Program reflects the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to recognise the contribution and sacrifice of Tasmanians involved in the Great War.
``The Tasmanian Government particularly wants to recognise the 12,907 Tasmanians who enlisted in the Great War, and the 2432 individuals who did not return home,’’ Ms Courtney said.
``While projects relating to World War One will be given priority, the funding program will also consider those that commemorate other significant anniversaries in 2017 that occurred in all wars and conflicts in which Australia participated.’’
To date a total of $143,890 has been provided to 44 projects over the first three years of the Centenary (2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16).
Guidelines and application forms are available at csrgrants@dpac.tas.gov.au or telephone on 1800 204 224.
Applications for both programs close on Friday, 16 September 2016.
