Granite Creek bridge improves off-road safety

A new bridge at Granite Creek on the Climies Track, linking Trial Harbour and Granville Harbour, will improve safety for mountain bike riders, bush walkers and four-wheel drive enthusiasts.

The Granite Creek project has been managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service and is part of the Government’s stimulus package for the West Coast.  It will help re-establish the Climies Track, which showcases the unique landscapes of the region, taking users through majestic rainforest, past spectacular waterfalls, under towering cliffs and across button grass plains.

Several years ago, the bridge over Granite Creek collapsed which added to the difficulty and risk of using Climies Track, with the only detour coming within 10 metres of a waterfall.

The project will be finished tomorrow and the Climies Track will be open in time for the Easter break.

Although the bridge has improved safety at Granite Creek this track is still rated as ‘hard’ and users should be well prepared.
