Tasmania’s largest mine is celebrating its 50th year in the State by looking to boost job numbers and investigating underground exploration in the North-West.
Since opening in 1968, the Grange Resources Savage River mine has grown from strength to strength by adding to its workforce and increasing its capacity.
The mine currently employs more than 600 workers and contractors, which includes 54 new jobs recently created due to an increase in demand.
Excitingly, Grange Resources has advised it will invest $10 million in the first stage of a feasibility study to investigate accessing the ore body through underground development.
If found to be feasible, this could underpin the future development and life of the mine while adding certainty and more opportunity for Braddon.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is the biggest supporter of the resources industry, which accounted for 55 per cent of the State’s exports – or more than $1.5 billion in 2016-17.
I wish to congratulate Grange for a successful 50 years in Tasmania and wish them all the best with any future endeavours in the State.
With operations assured until at least 2034, there will be many more celebrations to come.
