Government working to support Tasmanians

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government will do everything we can to support Tasmanians living with mental ill-health and addiction related illnesses.

“Sue and I have talked about her ideas and the Government’s future plans for mental health, which very much align,” Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing Jeremy Rockliff said.

“I am looking into Sue’s ideas in the context of our Rethink Mental Health Plan, which puts a focus on community-based supports and better co-ordination between services.

“Sue and I have a very constructive engagement and as recently as today, Sue has been engaged in briefings with the Chief Psychiatrist about our future plans,” Mr Rockliff said.

“The Minister and I both agree it is best not to be too prescriptive on what that support looks like right now,” Liberal Member for Clark Sue Hickey said.

“This journey for world’s best practice mental health alcohol and drug recovery is in its infancy so full costings are not yet possible. We need to consult with the sector about what they think that support should look like, and the families of people they may help.

“I am very passionate about these issues and am pleased to work with the Minister in the best interest of this cause, whatever it may eventually look like,” Ms Hickey said.
