Government to appeal mine lease decision

The Government has decided to appeal a recent Supreme Court decision relating to the statements of reasons for the granting of mining leases on the Mt Lindsay and Livingstone projects.

There is no greater supporter of the mining industry in Tasmania than the Liberal Government, and we are working hard to grow confidence for investors to boost economic activity and to create jobs.

The application was brought by the Tarkine National Coalition, a group that has shown its ideological opposition to mining in the North-West.

We are committed to an appropriate, reasonable and timely regulatory regime for mines and all other development that gives confidence and certainty to investors.

Our number one priority is jobs, and we will continue to fight for this industry, which we believe has a bright future in Tasmania.
