Government recommendations to reduce congestion implemented

The decision by the Hobart City Council to implement several Government recommendations on clearways and parking restrictions in the CBD is welcomed as a positive move to ease traffic congestion events.

The congestion is a symptom of a growing economy, and we will continue to take action to minimise its impact on Tasmanians.

While a number of congestion-busting initiatives from the Midson Report have yet to be accepted, last night’s decision will complement further State Government initiatives, which will be announced soon to reduce the severity of congestion events

Yesterday my Department announced special arrangements for roadworks on the Southern Outlet to minimise disruption to the travelling public during the commencement of the school year.

I also look forward to the traffic lights being switched on soon at the Brooker Highway intersection with Elwick Road to smooth traffic flows from the northern suburbs.

Working together with the Councils of Greater Hobart we can achieve much more to alleviate traffic congestion in the CBD and I look forward to further progress on this issue.
