Government has fixed the budget mess, now investing more in frontline services

The Hodgman Government is committed to fixing the budget mess that we inherited from Labor and the Greens so that we can invest more in frontline services like health, education and supporting the vulnerable.

Today I released the Treasurer’s Annual Financial Report for the 2015-16 financial year, which shows that for the first time since 2009-10, the Government has lived within its means.

It also confirms that the Hodgman Government recorded the first surplus in six years and the best budget bottom line in ten years.  And rather than driving the State into net debt like Labor and the Greens, we have strengthened our underlying financial position.

The budget is under control and Tasmanians know that they can trust us to manage money and reinvest in health, education and protecting the vulnerable, and that is exactly what we are doing.

We know strong and sustainable budget management is critical for underpinning investor confidence and for job creation.

Because we have been careful financial managers, Tasmanians are the beneficiaries through a stronger economy and in sustainable essential services.
