Government Delivering On Literacy and Numeracy Specialists

The Liberal Government's commitment to improving education levels and job prospects of Tasmania's students is already underway with recruitment commencing tomorrow for 25 specialist literacy and numeracy teachers.

The Department will call for expressions of interest in the specialist positions and training and resources support is also being prepared for implementation with the new roles from Day 1 of Term 3.

These roles will be providing vital support to classroom teaching in literacy and numeracy and helping give specialist assistance for children who are falling behind.

The educational standards in our schools under the Labor-Green Government were not acceptable with our year 7 to 9 students consistently performing below their national peers in literacy and numeracy national testing.

Our Government is focussed on improving the education and training levels in Tasmania in order to give young people a positive future in Tasmania and grow our economy.

These new specialist teachers will be part of our Government improving the life chances of our young people and have them job ready when they leave year 12.
