Good news for iiNet and Internode customers

The Hodgman Liberal Government has been working constructively during the week putting forward the concerns of Tasmanian iiNet and Internode customers.

I’ve spoken again with both TPG and Telstra Wholesale senior management today and have been advised that full capacity has been deployed ahead of schedule and customers should be seeing improved performance.

The Government has been hands-on throughout the week talking with both TPG and Telstra Wholesale to help ensure the fastest possible improvement.

While iiNet and Internode customers did experience very significant degradations of their internet services during week, including prioritisation of traffic, it is noted that other ISPs including iPrimus. Optus, Dodo and Telstra were not affected.

Likewise other major users of the Basslink cable such as the Tasmanian Government, AARNET and other commercial entities acted in a timely manner to ensure sufficient capacity ahead of the planned outage and transitioned to the Telstra cables without any notable effect.

The focus of the Tasmanian Government throughout this period has been to facilitate a solution which is in the interests of Tasmanian customers, including business customers. We are pleased with the new arrangements and will continue to monitor the Basslink repair process.
