Gone Fishing Day

National Gone Fishing Day (October 15) is a great reason to join with keen Tasmanian anglers at Fromberg’s Dam.

Gone Fishing Day is an initiative of the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation, with the Fromberg’s Dam event one of several organised across the state to encourage Tasmanians to get outdoors, drop a line and enjoy time with family and friends.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a passionate supporter of recreational fishing which is part of the Tasmanian way of life.

The state’s class sea and inland fisheries provide superb opportunities for locals and anglers from around the world, and recreational fishers contribute an estimated $90 million into the Tasmanian economy each year.

Today’s event at Fromberg’s Dam is managed by the Ulverstone Young Anglers Development Team with assistance from Anglers Alliance Tasmania to promote junior trout fishing.

The Hodgman Government is proud of the fact Tasmania’s world class inland trout fishing attracts around 25,000 recreational anglers into regional areas annually, including over 5,500 fishers from interstate or overseas; a fact recognised with the state again selected to host the 2019 World Fly Fishing Championships.

Fishcare Tasmania encourages participants to fish responsibly and for more information visit www.fishing.tas.gov.au or the Fisheries Tasmania Facebook page.
