Glenorchy LEARN to make education a whole-of-community effort

The Glenorchy LEARN Strategy is the result of the local council's effort to develop a whole-of-community approach to improve education outcomes.

In launching the strategy today, I am encouraged by the commitment shown by the Glenorchy City Council to take a leading role in addressing the learning needs and challenges of its community.

The strategy aims to improve education and training participation and attainment, and develop a culture of lifelong learning in the Glenorchy community.

This relates well to the Liberal Government's plan for education and our commitment to create a job-ready generation.

It is also timely as we embark on a major review of the Education Act, which provides the legislative framework for how we deliver education in Tasmania.

The council should be commended for the work that has gone in to developing the Glenorchy LEARN Strategy and, most importantly, for understanding the value of education and the power it has to transform its community.

The Liberal Government will continue to work alongside the Glenorchy community, and indeed all communities around the State, to achieve our aim of a Tasmania that leads the nation in education.
