Giving more Tasmanians the chance to own their own home

A key priority of the Hodgman Liberal Government is supporting Tasmanians in need, which is why we are making a huge investment in affordable housing and have a target to triple the number of affordable houses by 2025 under our Affordable Housing Strategy.

To help more Tasmanians experience the joy of home ownership, our HomeShare initiative means more Tasmanians have the opportunity to buy their own home that they otherwise could not afford.

The Hodgman Government, in partnership with Bendigo and Adelaide Bank and Tassie Home Loans, is today launching a $30,000 advertising campaign to promote the benefits of HomeShare.

To launch the campaign, Premier Will Hodgman met with Naomi Humphries – a new home owner who was able to buy land and build a new home in the location of her choice, to her specifications and budget, all because of HomeShare.

By bridging the deposit gap for permanent residents of Tasmania, people like Naomi can build on affordable land or take advantage of the various house/land packages available across Tasmania.

HomeShare is one of several Government initiatives under our $73.5 million Affordable Housing Strategy to help more people find a place to call home, and the new advertising campaign will let more Tasmanians know how they too might be able to get into home ownership when they thought it was out of their reach.

The Hodgman Government has also expanded HomeShare as part of our commitment to rebuilding essential services and providing a hand-up for Tasmanians in need, by increasing asset and income limits as well as giving public housing tenants the opportunity to take the next step from renting to home ownership.
