Girls Day Out 2014

Today I was honoured to officially open Girls Day Out 2014 at Princes Wharf Shed No. 1 in Hobart, Tasmania's largest female lifestyle expo and fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

With more than 50 exhibitors, this year's Girls Day Out includes gourmet food and wine stalls, health and wellbeing information, cooking demonstrations, fashion shows and live music.

Inspiring panellists taking part in Q&A Forums come from a variety of backgrounds and are breast cancer patients and survivors, entrepreneurs, counsellors and health professionals.

Girls Day Out 2014 supports the National Breast Cancer Foundation by raising awareness and money which will be used to fund research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer.

On average, the disease claims the lives of seven Australian women every day, while around 350 Tasmanian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

While there is no doubt Girls Day Out is a fun event to attend, it also carries an important health message about breast cancer prevention, early detection and supporting a cause that sadly too many of us have been touched by.
