Getting rid of red tape to support local businesses and create jobs

The Liberal Government is getting on with the job of cutting red tape so that we can help local businesses and create jobs.

As one of the first steps to cut red and green tape, I have issued new instructions overturning the Labor-Green Government's ridiculous rule mandating that government agencies were prohibited from buying anything other than non-cage eggs. This was an unnecessary level of red tape that threatened local jobs and was simply another case of Labor pandering to the Greens.

I have also changed the rules relating to the tendering arrangements for government cleaning contracts.  Labor had effectively given the unions a veto over who could tender for government cleaning contracts.  We have reversed this.  This is about ensuring that more Tasmanian businesses can compete for contracts and cleaners will of course be paid their proper entitlements under their award.

These are just two of the examples of the Liberal Government's plan to cut red and green tape and to make sure that Tasmanian businesses get their fair share of government contracts.  We are getting on with restoring confidence in the economy, creating jobs and backing business.
