Funding to support job seekers and existing workers learn new skills

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to delivering real skills for real jobs to grow the economy and create jobs for Tasmanians.

I was delighted today to visit Liviende Veranto, a disability service provider who will receive a grant of $17,000 under the Government’s 2016 Skills Fund Demand Led program.

The Skills Fund provides funding for subsidised vocational education and training via a range of options to suit the needs of industry, employers and individuals.  It will enable Liviende Veranto to train staff to support a range of new skills before the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme in Tasmania.

The first grant round of the Skills Fund has allocated funding of up to $4.4 million to training that will benefit up to 3,300 Tasmanian learners. The program supports skills development in job seekers and existing workers through training for growth areas of our economy including tourism and hospitality, building and construction, disability services and agriculture.

Over 96 per cent of the training organisations that have secured funding under this round have a local presence in Tasmania and employ Tasmanians. These organisations have been selected for their capacity to deliver high quality training that meets local industry skill needs.

To ensure demand for training under the Skills Fund program is current and responds to local skills demands as they emerge, a further grant round will be released in September 2016 with an allocated budget of up to $3.5 million.
