Funding Committed for New Boardwalk, Seawall to Reconnect Wynyard Waterfront

Work will begin within months to reconnect Wynyard’s waterfront with the Hodgman Liberal Government delivering $828,000 in funding to rebuild a seawall and to construct a new boardwalk in partnership with the Waratah-Wynyard Council.

This $1.7 million project will once again allow locals and visitors alike to walk on the paths through the town’s picturesque Richard Gutteridge Gardens, past the wharf and to the yacht club and beyond.

Importantly, it will also help to realise the wider Wynyard Waterfront and Environs Masterplan, which will make this an even more special place to visit.

The existing footpath along the aged and degraded seawall in front of the Waterfront Motel has been closed for some time, forcing people wanting to walk between the wharf and the yacht club and its surrounds to take a detour.

The new seawall and boardwalk will reconnect the two precincts, and provide more visually appealing infrastructure on the waterfront.

The funding announced today will be delivered under the Liberal Government’s Community Infrastructure Fund.

This is not an election commitment; it is real money that is being provided now.

With this announcement, we expect the council to seek planning approval in the coming weeks, with construction to begin – and hopefully even be completed – in this financial year.

The Braddon Liberal Team has got behind this project because we know the importance of upgrading community infrastructure if we are to attract more visitors to our region.

The North-West has the potential to gain a greater share of our growing visitor economy, and this project also aligns well with the recent announcement we made of funding to build a shared pathway between Wynyard and Burnie.

A re-elected majority Liberal Government will continue to work with the council on delivering future elements of the Wynyard Waterfront and Environs Masterplan.
