Fuel Price Boards to be reflective of true price from tomorrow

The Hodgman Liberal Government is working hard to address cost of living concerns in Tasmania.

Petrol is a major household cost, and changes to the Code of Practice for Fuel Price Boards will make it easier for Tasmanian motorists to accurately determine the price of fuel.

From tomorrow (7 May, 2018), service stations will be required to advertise the full price of fuel, rather than the discounted price, on petrol price boards.

The change comes after legislation to change Tasmanian consumer law was passed late in 2017, and has the support of key stakeholder groups including the RACT and TCCI.

The Code of Practice forms part of the Government’s fuel price transparency package, which also included a $60 000 one off grant to RACT to support the local introduction of GasBuddy, a crowd sourced fuel price app.

Consumer Building and Occupational Services will conduct auditing to ensure that the new advertising requirements are being complied with.
