A resolution endorsing a Code of Practice for fuel price boards has passed the Upper House which means it will soon be easier for Tasmanian motorists to accurately determine the price of fuel.
The Code of Practice will oblige petrol stations to provide clear and up-to-date information on petrol prices enabling motorists to better compare prices and shop around.
We understand that petrol is a major consumable for households which is why we have taken action.
A formal Code of Practice is part of the Hodgman Liberal Government’s commitment to lowering cost of living pressures for Tasmanians. It has the support of key stakeholder groups including the RACT, TCCI and TACC.
The passing of the resolution by both Houses of Parliament allows the Code of Practice to be prescribed under the Australian Consumer Law (Tasmania) Act 2010.
The Code will commence six months after gazettal to allow service station holders to make the necessary changes in order to be compliant with the new requirements after commencement.
