The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to lowering cost of living pressures for Tasmanians.
Today the Lower House passed a resolution approving the Government’s Code of Practice for Fuel Price Boards, which will make it easier for Tasmanian motorists to accurately determine the price of fuel.
Along with water, power and groceries, petrol is a major consumable for households.
The introduction of a Code of Practice for Fuel Price Boards will oblige petrol stations to provide clear and up-to-date information on petrol prices.
Unlike Labor, who did nothing for 16 years and now want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a new bureaucrat, the Liberal Government has acted.
The Liberal Government’s action on this important issue has been undertaken with the backing and support of key stakeholder groups including the RACT and TCCI, who have welcomed the Code of Practice.
The new Code will couple with the free GasBuddy mobile app, providing motorists with access to service station petrol prices sourced from data submitted by Tasmanian motorists.
The motion will now be put in front of the Upper House, and once approved will be officially prescribed under the Australian Consumer Law (Tasmania) Act 2010.
