Fostering the next generation of female coaches

Two female Tasmanian coaches will have the opportunity to develop their skills and gain national experience as part of the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s Women in Sport Coaching Scholarship.

Jessica Blake (hockey) and Abbey Savage (swimming) have today been announced as the successful recipients for 2019-20, following the inaugural launch of the scholarship last year.

Each of the coaches will receive $5,000 as part of the partnership between Womensport and Recreation Tasmania Inc and the Tasmanian Institute of Sport.

The aim is to provide quality coaching opportunities to women and increase the number and expertise of female coaches in Tasmania.

It involves mentoring and allows the scholarship holders to gain valuable national experience while expanding their own knowledge and skills.

This includes the utilisation of sports psychology, integration and utilisations of current technology practices within their programming and daily training environment, exposure to national camps and involvement with high performance teams.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to supporting more women in leadership, as well as making Tasmania the healthiest state in the nation by 2025.
