Forestry volumes continue to rise

Tasrail continues to grow its services to the forestry industry, recording a 25 per cent increase in volume over the previous year.

This record achievement, has been in part due to our investment in the Parattah Rail Siding, which I am pleased to say is now operating with excellent customer support.

The Siding is expected to add 85,000 tonnes of logs for the 7 months of operation in the 2019-20 financial year. Further increasing to 120,000 tonnes in 2020-21.

In response to industry demand, TasRail also increased its five-day-per-week service to six days between Brighton and Bell Bay in 2018-19.

Importantly, log freight transport between Brighton and Bell Bay rail produces a 62 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and assists the forestry industry with forest certification process.

These significant investments demonstrate the staunch commitment of the Hodgman majority Liberal Government to strong and sustainable rail infrastructure to support our forestry industry, providing the certainty and confidence needed to make long-term investment decisions.
