After devastating floods ravaged many parts of our state over winter, the Tasmanian Government made a number of grants available to provide flood victims with some financial support during this difficult time.
Individuals and families affected by the floods in June/July are encouraged to apply for Tasmanian Government’s Recovery and Restoration Grants before applications close on Monday 31 October.
The Recovery and Restoration Grants provide people with support in three areas:
So far 258 grant applications have been received from those affected by the floods in June and July, and over $345,000 has been distributed to help those in need back into their homes as quickly as possible.
The majority of applications have been made by residents in the North West (58%), followed by the North (39%) with a small number from people in the South (3%).
The grants have helped people with impacts ranging from minor flooding to the complete loss of their house.
Grants have been used to replace food, clothes, beds and personal items as well as electrical goods such as fridges and washing machines. Grants have also been used to cover the difference of rent in temporary accommodation and for repairs to carpets, wall linings and driveways.
The grants are made available on the basis of need to individuals and families who meet eligibility criteria.
Full recovery is a long-term process, and for some there is more work to do.
The Tasmanian Government encourages applications without delay, and hopes that access to a Restoration and Recovery Grant can make the recovery process a little easier. To apply call the Flood Recovery Taskforce on 1800 567 567 or email floodrecovery@dpac.tas.gov.au
