Flame of Remembrance

The Liberal Government will provide $200,000 towards the construction of a Flame of Remembrance at the Hobart Cenotaph

The Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania's 11,000 war veterans and ex-service personnel.

"The Flame of Remembrance will serve as an enduring reminder of the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the Australian Defence Force, both past and present," Premier Will Hodgman said.

"Fittingly the flame will be completed by the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC Gallipoli landings on April 25, 2015."

RSL Tasmania will contribute $100,000 to the construction of the flame and the Hobart City Council will provide in-kind and other support.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Guy Barnett said the flame, which will burn 24-hours a day, will provide a place for reflection.

"The Flame of Remembrance will be the centerpiece of the Liberal Government's centenary of ANZAC commemorations, which encompasses all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations in which Australians have been involved."
