Fixing Mobile Blackspots on the West Coast

The Hodgman Liberal Government continues to support and invest in vital communications for the West Coast.

We welcome today’s announcement by the Commonwealth that our support for a new mobile tower at Temma on the West Coast has been successful.

The new tower will be built under Round Two of the Commonwealth Mobile Black Spots Programme.

The Mobile Black Spots Programme is designed to improve telecommunications in remote and regional areas. The Government committed $350,000 in Round One for infrastructure in the North-East.

The Hodgman Government has committed an additional $350,000 for Round Two to support the construction of a mobile tower at Temma on the West Coast.

This was one of the locations identified as a priority by the Office of Security and Emergency Management.

A tower at Temma will support our dedicated emergency services in a high fire risk area and provide potentially life-saving services for the many hundreds of fishers, campers, bushwalkers and tourists.

There is no greater supporter of the West Coast than the Hodgman Liberal Government, and this investment in vital communications infrastructure follows the announcement last week of progress in delivering superfast NBN services.

The NBN announcement comes after successful lobbying from Liberal Braddon Members to secure NBN Fibre to the Node technology and fixed wireless on the West Coast.

Under Round Two of the Mobile Black Spots Programme a total of six additional Tasmanian regional areas will have new or upgraded mobile communications. The locations are: Temma, Yolla, Bradys Lake, Buckland North, Strathgordon and Swanwick.
