First police recruit course for 2017

The Hodgman Liberal Government is on track to restoring Tasmania Police numbers that were cut under the former Government.

The first recruit course of 2017 will see another twenty new recruits inducted into the Police Academy today, moving us ever closer to restoring police numbers to 1233 by 2018 in line with our election commitment.

The Labor-Green Government’s decision to cut police numbers was a green light to criminals.

We committed to reversing those cuts as a strong police service is essential to tackling crime. We are already seeing the dividends, with ABS stats released last week confirming the average number of offenders is well down from its peak under Labor and the Greens.

The new recruits will continue the great work that Tasmania Police do every day in keeping the community safe, and I wish them well on their training and on a rewarding career with Tasmania Police.
