Fireworks Permits

WorkSafe Tasmania has been made aware of concerns regarding fireworks displays in close proximity to Bonorong Wildlife Park and will later today withdraw a number of permits as a consequence of new information that has been provided within the last 24 hours about the real risk of harm to native animals, including to protected species that are pregnant of have very recently given birth.

The permit holders near the Park will be notified that the permits are being revoked.

More generally, WorkSafe Tasmania urges anyone participating in approved fireworks displays tomorrow night to be responsible, considerate and safe.

All fireworks permits are issued with strict conditions to ensure safety and also to minimise disturbance to other people and especially animals.

Permit holders are required to give at least seven days’ notice of the proposed use of fireworks to the relevant authorities like the Fire Service and the Police, as well as neighbours and anyone with commercial livestock operations within a one kilometre radius of the proposed fireworks display.

Fireworks cannot be used tomorrow night if there are high winds or any other unsafe weather conditions.

Tasmania is also participating in a national project to develop a nationally consistent approach to explosives laws, including fireworks.  Part of the national approach will be to call for submissions and feedback from the public.
