Firefighter recruitment campaign

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to continuing to support our firefighters, who work hard to keep Tasmanians safe.

Today, Tasmania Fire Service is launching a new campaign to recruit 24 career firefighters in 2019 – the most firefighters to be recruited in a year since 2000.

Themed ‘Now’s Your Time’, the campaign encourages interested men and women to think about applying – ‘Now’s your time to take the step’.

Keeping the community safe is a priority for the Government, which is why we are continuing to invest in our valued emergency services.

We are providing $2 million for volunteer TFS and SES units to apply for equipment and station upgrades, as well as $535,000 to develop, sustain and grow Regional Area Teams’ capacity.

$12.4 million has been made available to fund the internal fabrication of medium tankers and the purchase of heavy pumpers and aerial appliances as part of the Fire Fighting Appliances Replacement Program. We’re also investing $2.8 million into the replacement and refurbishment of fire stations in the state.

On top of that, we’ve put an additional $36 million into the Fuel Reduction Program, a nation-leading contemporary and strategic risk-based approach to bushfire mitigation.

We thank our hardworking career and volunteer firefighters, who do an incredible job keeping Tasmanian communities safe.

For those interested in a career in firefighting, the new website is available at www.recruitment.fire.tas.gov.au and you will see the social media graphics appear on the TFS facebook page over the coming weeks.
