The official launch of Crime Stoppers online reporting initiative will give every Tasmanian the ability to confidentially provide information to Crime Stoppers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
With most people having immediate access to the internet via their smartphone, it’s an anonymous, easy way for the community to assist Tasmania Police in solving crime, and will complement measures already undertaken as part of the Government’s plan to improve community safety.
We’ve passed a number of pieces of legislation already to improve policing and increase community safety and this will continue to be a strong focus with our amendments to stop people evading police to be announced very soon.
Combined with police numbers being restored to 1233 by 2018 and the phasing out of suspended sentences, it is clear we are delivering on our plan to improve community safety.
Crime Stoppers has been in Tasmania for over 22 years, and the Government recognises the important role it plays in keeping our communities safe by allowing members of the public to anonymously report suspicious or criminal activity.
