The Housing Land Supply Bill 2018 has today passed the House of Assembly, bringing another Housing Summit action closer to completion.
The Bill provides a more direct and efficient process for rezoning parcels of government owned land, making that land available to build more houses sooner.
This Bill maintains the same important considerations for assessing a rezoning proposal – but it does so in a timeframe that could cut months from that standard process.
We are getting on with the job of fixing the housing shortage and cutting down the time it takes to rezone land will allow us to deliver more affordable homes at a faster rate.
It’s just the latest step in our plan to address pressures across the entire housing spectrum, and we will continue to roll out initiatives from the housing summit and from our affordable housing strategy to ensure every Tasmanian has a roof over their head.
I now look forward to the Legislative Council’s consideration of this important Bill.
