The Tasmanian Liberal Government is determined to address family violence.
This is a whole of community issue but government has a central role to play, and I am accepting responsibility for coordinating the response of my Government. This will include a Family Violence Action Plan to be released in August.
The Action Plan will be developed in consultation with an External Consultative Group, which includes:
We understand that to better understand the challenge of tackling family violence we need to involve those people and groups who work at the coal face.
This is why the group will be joined and supported by representatives from the broader community who have an interest or experience and expertise in addressing family violence.
Participants will be asked to prioritise actions against the criteria including primary prevention, criminal justice and legal responses, strengthening support for adults and children, and the management and rehabilitation of perpetrators.
The External Consultative Group will be joined by broader community representatives at the first workshop consultation meeting to be held in Hobart on Friday.
The consultation will be ongoing and I also invite Members of Parliament to become involved in contributing to the action plan and to put forward their perspectives and ideas.
