Facebook ad

Labor’s attempt to play tawdry politics with an organisation genuinely trying to attract carers for children in need is disgusting.

Advertising on Facebook is the modern-day equivalent of advertising in a newspaper. Do people now need Labor’s permission to advertise on Twitter and Instagram, too?

Labor also has a convenient short term memory - they must have forgotten that former Minister for Children Michelle O’Byrne also used social media to recruit carers back in 2012.

As it happens, my office has been advised there has been a massive positive response to this advertisement seeking carers, with over 50 enquiries. This is a good thing.

Of course, all potential carers will be trained, evaluated, and need a working with children check before they can take children into care.

Nonetheless, my office has spoken to the organisation in question and asked them to exercise caution in the future wording of their advertisements, to ensure that ads can’t be taken out of context and deliberately politicised.
